West County Wastewater’s

Community Cleanup

Thanks to everyone who participated in WCW’s first-ever Community Cleanup!

We partnered with East Bay Regional Parks and ENGIE to take action to protect and preserve Wildcat Canyon Creek with participation from local residents, Earth Teams from Pinole and Richmond High School, WCW Staff and Board Members, and interns!

The focus of the cleanup was on micro litter removal and habitat restoration. Micro litter is the most harmful to the environment because it bypasses filtration systems and ends up either at wastewater treatment plants or directly into our beautiful San Francisco Bay. English Ivy is a decorative land cover we see often in the Bay Area, but it is an invasive plant and impedes natural vegetation. We successfully removed over 1,000 pounds of English Ivy.

The trails and park looked so much better when we were all done!
