Students pursuing a water or wastewater career can now apply for scholarships through West County Wastewater’s (WCW) partner, the Bay Area Consortium for Water/Wastewater Education (BACWWE).

Employees in the water and wastewater fields are essential to protecting public health and the environment. Jobs in the industry offer sustainable, marketable careers that can be utilized in almost any geographic area, with a growing need for talented workers in the Bay Area.

“It’s important that we nurture qualified candidates to carry on the vital work of the wastewater industry,” said WCW General Manager Lisa Malek-Zadeh. “In return, WCW offers an inclusive and progressive workplace where employees enjoy being part of a team that values innovation and embraces the ideas and diversity that each individual brings to the table.”

To grow the pool of candidates for local water and wastewater jobs and support increasing industry demand, BACWWE launched the Fall 2021 BACWWE Scholarship Program. The deadline to apply is September 17, 2021, at 5 p.m.

Through the program, students can apply for reimbursement of tuition, fees and books for industry-relevant courses. Students must be enrolled in an educational program at one of the following local community colleges to be eligible:

  • Solano Community College (Fairfield, CA), Water and Wastewater Technology
  • Gavilan College (Gilroy, CA), Water Resources Management
  • Santa Rosa Junior College (Santa Rosa, CA), Water Resources Technology

BACWWE is a partnership between 22 water and wastewater agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area and various educational institutions. For more information, including eligible courses, and to apply for the program, visit bacwa.org/education/bacwwe.
