West County Wastewater crews are working hard through the COVID-19 pandemic to keep sewage flowing away from your home. Help us fight future sewer backups in your neighborhood by following a few simple steps:

FOG_backup.jpg1. Pour fats, oils and grease (FOG) into a covered, disposable container and throw it into your garbage. Never put fats, oils or grease down the sink, drains or toilets.

2. Soak up remaining oils and grease with an absorbent material such as paper towels and throw into your green waste bin or garbage.

3. Before you wash your dishes, scrape food scraps, fats, oil and grease into the compost, green waste or garbage bin.

4. Use sink strainers to catch any remaining food waste while washing dishes. Empty it into the compost, green waste or garbage bin.

When you pour FOG down the drain, it clogs pipes and pumps, as seen in the image above, and can cause costly and hazardous overflows. Remember, when in doubt, throw it out!
